The verification method is separate, and deliberately

The verification method is published so that any party may implement it and check a receipt independently. That is the product's central claim and it cannot be true if the method is proprietary in practice.

A licence for the sealing engine is not required in order to verify a receipt. The verification method is licensed below, and the grant is made here.

Ownership

Every patent and patent application in this estate — including application 19/747,068 — is held by Stanley Benjamin Smith individually. Corobate LLC does not own any of them. No partner, customer or marketing document may state or imply otherwise, and any technology-partner embed touching a patent must be papered as a licence from the individual.

Corobate LLC is the company that sells the applications. The two facts sit together without contradiction and both must be stated accurately: the company sells the products; the individual holds the patents.

Third-party components

The engine has zero runtime dependencies. There is no third-party runtime code to license, and this is deliberate: for an attestation engine the dependency list is the supply chain.

The verification method is licensed, and here is the licence

The verification procedure, the canonical encoding specification, and any reference implementation of them are made available under the Apache License 2.0.

That is a decision, not a placeholder. Three reasons:

A counterparty who must ask permission to check a receipt cannot really check it. The product's central claim fails if verification is licensable at our discretion.

Apache 2.0 rather than MIT because it carries an express patent grant. A permissive licence without one leaves an implementer exposed to the very patent this notice announces, which would make the grant illusory.

Irrevocability is the point, not a cost. A licence we could withdraw is a licence a counterparty must price the withdrawal of.

The sealing engine is not covered by this grant. It is proprietary and licensed commercially. The asymmetry is deliberate: checking is free forever, producing is the product.

Patent grant and its limit

The Apache 2.0 grant on the verification method extends to implementing and using that method. It is not a licence to practise the claims of application 19/747,068 in a sealing engine, and nothing here grants that.

Ownership, and who may say what

Every patent and patent application in this estate — including application 19/747,068 — is held by Stanley Benjamin Smith individually. Corobate LLC does not own any of them and holds no exclusive licence unless a written instrument says otherwise.

No partner, customer, marketing document, deck or web page may state or imply that Corobate LLC owns a patent or application. Any technology-partner embed touching a patent must be papered as a licence from the individual.

What Corobate LLC does is sell the applications — AttestedAssets, Stock Risk Receipt, PaymentVerification, TellmeTiresias and the suite. It is the seller and the contracting party on every commercial instrument. It is not the patent holder, and a document may say the first without implying the second only if it says who the holder is.

Trademarks

"Corobate", "AttestedAssets", "Stock Risk Receipt" and "TellmeTiresias" are used as marks. The Apache grant on the verification method does not license the marks — an implementer may implement, and may not imply endorsement.
